Starting a family is a milestone in many people's lives. It can also be a stressful time and many parents experience mental ill health. The most common mental health problems experienced during pregnancy and after birth are anxiety, depression and post-traumatic stress disorder. Fear and anxiety can last for a short time and then pass, but they can also last much longer and you can get stuck with them. Sometimes they can take over your ability to eat, sleep, concentrate, travel or even leave the house. This can hold you back from doing the things you want or need to do and affect your health.
